Clinton football competes in first 7-on-7 event of year

Modified: Thursday, Jul 19th, 2012

MOWEAQUA – For the first time in 2012, Clinton tested its talents against other competition, as the Maroons participated in Saturday’s 7-on-7 tournament at Central A&M.

Clinton finished the tournament with at least 13 points in each of its four games. Although they could not achieve a victory at the end of the day, head coach John Hayden said his Maroons put up a fight in each of their games.

“We did some good things and [there are] things we’ve got to improve on. But we thought we competed through all four games,” Hayden said. “It would have been great to come out of here undefeated. That’s not what happened, but we learn from our mistakes and correct them after that.”

Clinton had some trouble moving the football, as it got shut out in the first half.

On their third drive, the Maroons could not convert on a fourth-and-inches opportunity.
