Posted: Friday, Jan 29th, 2010

CLINTON - The four-game losing streak the Clinton High School girls basketball team had been gong through came to an end Wednesday night in the final game of the Okaw Valley Conference Tournament in Decatur.

The Lady Maroons jumped out of the gate on a 15-4 run and held on for a 46-37 win over Meridian.

Brooklyn Gregory had a big night inside for Clinton (10-13, 3-6 Okaw Valley), posting a game-high 22 points.

“Brooklyn has been playing well and making huge shots for us,” Clinton head coach Josh Williams said. “She has been playing the best she has all year and we are very glad to have her.”

Greogry scored 10 of her points in the fourth quarter, where the Lady Maroons had to witstand 23 Hawks pointas to hold on to the nine point win.

Meridian had only scored 14 points in the first three quarters combined.

“We were really good defensively for three quarters,” Williams said. “But we saw a big lead and let up a little bit and allowed 23 points in the fourth quarter.”

The most significant part of the Lady Maroons’ win over Meridian is that it gave the team 10 wins this season, a number the program has not reached since the 2002-2003.

“We were really excited to get to number 10 and double digits,” Williams said. “From that standpoint, we are really excited.

The win also ended a four-game losing streak for Clinton.
