DOWNS - The Clinton Lady Maroons held the Tri-Valley Vikings to single digits in the first half and then held on to claim a 59-37 victory over their nonconference rivals Saturday.
There was no shortage of solid performances for Clinton (11-13).
Brooklyn Gregory and Meghan Matthews each led the Lady Maroons with 16 points, while Madi Bevins added 14.
The Lady Maroons raced out to a 17-6 lead after one quarter and built a 36-8 advantage by halftime.
Tri-Valley put together a third quarter run, outscoring Clinton, 17-6 in the frame.
But the Lady Maroons finished strong, outscoring the Vikings, 17-12 in the final quarter.
The win was the second in a row for Clinton, who previously had lost four consecutive contests.
Last night’s road contest against Argenta-Oreana finished too late for publication.
The team will hit the court for the final time in the regular season Thursday, with a 6 p.m. tipoff scheduled against Central A&M in Moweaqua.
The Lady Maroons will open up regional play next Monday, February 8, with a contest against Olympia High School.
Game time is 6:30 p.m.
