Maroons season ends with regional loss to Olympia
Posted: Monday, Mar 1st, 2010

STANFORD - The task at hand was a difficult one.

Heading into their first postseason game of the Shawn Leischner era, the Clinton Maroons were coming off two inspired efforts, but were faced with the task of taking down 2009 state qualifier Olympia High School in the IHSA Class 2A Stanford Regional semifinal.

In the end, the Spartans’ experience proved too much for the Maroons, easily taming Clinton, 60-33.

The Maroons took an early lead, 3-2, on an Aaron Ennis three-point basket, but never saw the advantage again.

The Spartans opened up a 19-9 lead after the first quarter and pushed the advantage to 33-14 at halftime.

Perhaps the Maroons best player this year, Aaron Ennis, scored the team’s first seven points. That would be the only seven he would tally all night.

Clinton did score the final basket of the first and second quarters, but the momentum could not carry.

Josh Wilson led the Maroons (7-20) with nine points and was followed in scoring by Ennis (7), Alex Jette (6), CJ Bundy (5), Colton Nixon (2), Griffen Lyons (2) and David Alwood (2).

Spencer Pratt was one of three Spartans to score in double figures, leading Olympia with 14 points.

Trailing 51-23 at the end of the third quarter, Clinton head coach Shawn Leischner had the team’s five seniors in the game for the entire fourth quarter.

The Maroons outscored the Spartans, 10-9 with Alwood, Bundy, Jette, Eric Barber and Cole Szymkiewicz on the floor.
