DECATUR – Going into an American Youth Basketball Tour tournament in which it played five games in two days, the Clinton eighth-grade basketball team had a respectable record of 8-12.
The Maroons left the tournament with a record of 4-1. They also left a lasting impression on the event’s hosts.
“The director at [Millikin] stopped me and said, ‘Hey, that third game was the best he’s seen played out there in this tournament by a team, all-around, all the kids playing together,’” Clinton coach Charles McCubbin said. “That made me feel proud.”
The tournament performance also improved their summer record to 12-13.
