CLINTON - Winnie Mae Mayfield, 91, of Clinton, IL, passed away on Wednesday, February 24, 2010, at Mease Continuing Care in Dunedin, FL. Services will be held at Calvert Funeral Home in Clinton. Wake will be held on Thursday, March 4th, 5 p.m.-7 p.m., and services will be held on Friday, March 5th, at 10 a.m., at Calvert Funeral Home, Clinton, IL.with burial at Pleasant Valley Cemetery west of Kenney.

Winnie Mayfield was born January 12, 1919, in Tunbridge Twp., the daughter of Ira Anderson Kemp and Anna Laura Wene. Winnie graduated from Kenney High School in 1936. She married Russell Owen Mayfield on February 14, 1937. He predeceased her in 1967. She was also predeceased by her daughter, Annabelle Dunlap Liming, and her brothers, Ira Johnson Kemp and Perry LeRoy Kemp, and two infant sisters.

Survivors include one daughter, Ellen Johnsen, of Dunedin, FL; and three grandchildren, Russell (Helena) Dunlap of Colorado Springs, CO; Lora Dunlap of Noblesville, IN; and Andrea Liming of Decatur, IL, plus three great-grandchildren, Cecelia and Keegan Dunlap, and Malik Liming.

A former farmwife, she worked at various Clinton stores, including Woolworths, Moffat Drugs, Famous Cash, and retired after 18 years of service at Spurgeon’s Department Store.

Winnie held membership in Artist Alley of Clinton, the First Christian Church, and the Myrtle Chapter of Eastern Star.

Her favorite memories included travelling to Israel, Europe, and England. She cherished the many friendships with those whom she worked, travelled, and met throughout the county.
