Maurice Dean Mathias

KENNEY — Maurice Dean Mathias, 88, of Kenney, Ill., passed away at 9:05 p.m. on August 14, 2012 at Advocate BroMenn Medical Center, Normal, Ill. A visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. on Friday at Calvert Funeral Home, Clinton. Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, August 18 at Calvert’s, Dennis Corley officiating. Interment will be at Pleasant Valley Cemetery, Kenney.

Memorials may be made to Tunbridge Fire Protection District, Kenney Civic League or the Kenney Heritage Association.

Maurice was born on July 2, 1924 in Findley, Ill., son of Chester Mathias and Lula “Cecile” Roney Mathias. He married Marceleen Spear on December 25, 1946 in Shelbyville, Ill. She survives.

Also surviving are children Mike (Joyce) Mathias, Kenney; Ron Mathias, Herrick, Ill., and Connie (Terry) Spencer, DeWitt, Ill., two sisters Wilma Lampert, Bridgeville, Pa., and Helen Reid, Shelbyville, Ill., 12 grandchildren and 24 great- grandchildren.

His parents, five brothers, one sister and one daughter Kathy preceded him in death.

Maurice was a member of the Kenney Christian Church. He was a 1942 graduate of Moweaqua High School, a 47-year trustee of Tunbridge Township Fire Protection District, a charter officer of the Bank of Kenney and 50-year member of the Odd Fellows. He farmed for all of his life in Findley and Kenney, Ill.
