School board waives student admission fees to sporting events

CLINTON -- By a unanimous vote, the Clinton Schools Board of Education waived student admission fees to all local athletic events. The change is effective immediately.
Previously, students were charged $2 but now with a school district ID, the students will be admitted free of charge.

CLINTON -- Thanks to a McLean County woman, the local genealogical society has been able to recently compile a book containing many area birth announcements, including one that goes back to 1937.
"They're in semi-alphabetical order, said Bonnie Walden, member of the DeWitt County Genealogical Society, headquartered in the lower level of Vespasian Warner Public Library.

AmVets / Eagles poker run raises $3,000 to help veterans

CLINTON -- Recently, AmVets Post 14, with the assistance of the Clinton Eagles and two special veteran family members, Angie and Dennis Reynolds, hosted its 8th annual Poker Run. There were more than 60 riders who showed up for the fun-filled day.
Sign-up began at 10 a.m., and the AmVets saluted the riders' departure at noon.

DeWitt County prepares for natural disasters with plan

CLINTON -- DeWitt County will begin developing a countywide plan that will identify activities and projects to reduce the damages caused by natural hazards such as floods, tornadoes, snow storms, thunderstorms, and ice storms among others. The plan is called a Natural Hazard Mitigation Plan and will be funded through a grant from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).
