CLINTON – For the Clinton Gold’s 12-and-under softball team, a split in Tuesday’s season-finale doubleheader was somewhat fitting.
It was the eighth split doubleheader of the season, and the third consecutive. The Gold followed a victory over the PC Express with a loss on both June 29 and July 3.
Clinton also followed a 14-1 win over Mount Zion on May 2 with an 8-8 tie. As a partial result of the split doubleheaders, the Gold finished their season with a record of 22-37-1.
“We did a lot of that this year,” Clinton coach Gary Alsup said. “We won the first one and lost the second one. Hopefully, next year will be a better year. We’ve got some young girls, small girls. Some could have played 10-and-under, but they moved up to 12-and-under instead. We knew it’d be a rough year. It was a little bit rougher than we thought, but we did alright. We tried hard.”
